Oppn leaders stopped at Noida borders
Noida, April 18 -- Tensions linked to worker unrest briefly resurfaced on Friday as political activity intensified at the Delhi-Noida borders, where police stopped opposition delegations attempting to enter the city.
Police reported a protest in Sector 8 around 9am, when workers gathered outside a company. A senior officer said teams reached the spot and counselled them, after which they resumed work.
Additional commissioner of police (law and order) Rajeev Narayan Mishra said the situation stemmed from a communication gap and was quickly brought under control.
Over 6,000 police personnel were deployed at more than 100 locations, including Sectors 58, 63, Phase 1, Phase 2 and Kasna.
Industrial areas remained functional, with factories operating at full strength and wage charts displayed.
Traffic was briefly affected at the DND Flyway and Chilla border as Samajwadi Party leaders, led by Mata Prasad Pandey, were stopped. MLA Atul Pradhan alleged excesses against workers.
A Communist Party of India (Marxist) delegation led by general secretary M.A. Baby was also stopped at the Chilla border.
