Op Vajrapat launched against criminal gangs
Varanasi, June 5 -- Police have launched "Operation Vajrapat" across the Varanasi range to identify and crack down on criminal gangs operating in Varanasi, Jaunpur and Ghazipur districts, including the Mahakal Gang, Farsa Gang and Katra Gang.
Varanasi Range DIG Vaibhav Krishna said all circle officers have been directed to hold meetings with SHOs, beat constables and other personnel to identify gang members on a beat-wise basis and take strict action against them.
The operation will target groups involved in intimidation, extortion, social media glorification of crime, Facebook Live broadcasts of criminal acts and interference in local disputes. Police have also been asked to review records from the past five years to identify gangs and their activities.
Detailed lists of gang leaders, members and crimes will be prepared at every police station. FIRs will be registered against identified gang members, even suo motu where victims are unwilling to come forward.
Dedicated teams will be formed to arrest offenders. The DIG urged residents to share information and warned of action against police officers showing laxity....
