only 1 state-run varsity finished hiring teachers in 2.5 yrs: govt
Jaipur, Aug. 26 -- Data tabled in the assembly showed that only one out of 32 state-funded universities has completed the appointment of regular teachers over the past two-and-a-half years.
Responding to a question by Congress MLA Amin Kagzi, the higher education department said that between January 2024 and July 2026, only four govt universities in the state issued advertisements for permanent teaching positions, while only one institution sought applications for contractual posts.
The hiring slowdown has left eight major universities with 1,211 vacant teaching positions. Rajasthan University accounts for over half of these vacancies, with 615 posts unfilled, said the department. The university also recorded 108 faculty retirements between January 2024 and July 2026. htc...
