One held after failed ATM cash theft bid
Lucknow, Aug. 22 -- A group of men allegedly targeted an India One ATM at Maurawan Mod in Lucknow's Mohanlalganj area in a midnight attempt to steal cash, damaging the machine and uprooting its upper portion before fleeing with several components, police said.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of August 21. The suspects arrived in a white Baleno and allegedly tried to break open the ATM to access the cash inside. When they failed, they dismantled and carried away several components.
The incident came to light after Rahul Gupta, an India One ATM franchise partner and resident of Mawaiya, lodged a complaint with Mohanlalganj police. Police registered FIR no 314/2026 under section 305(a) of the BNS and began examining CCTV footage from cameras installed around the ATM and adjoining areas. Investigators later traced the vehicle allegedly used in the crime and detained Abhishek Jaiswal, 20, son of Vishnu Jaiswal and a resident of Lalganj in Rae Bareli district. The white Maruti Baleno, bearing registration number UP 33 CL 8621, was also taken into police custody.
Police said CCTV footage and other evidence helped establish Jaiswal's involvement in the incident. A second accused, Vishal Singh alias Pandey, 26, son of Hari Singh under Lalganj police station in Rae Bareli, is still at large....
