LUCKNOW, Feb. 11 -- letters@htlive.com A 32-year-old man was killed while his friend sustained critical injuries after their motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle on Ayodhya Road, in Lucknow, late on Monday night, police said on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Amit Kumar Pandey, a resident of Ramnagar in Kanpur. He was travelling with his friend Amod Bajpai to the Lodheswar Mahadev temple in Barabanki to offer prayers. According to family members, Pandey used to undertake the pilgrimage every year. The accident occurred near GS Lawn on Ayodhya Road, where an unknown vehicle rammed into their motorcycle. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape along with the vehicle. Locals alerted the police, following which both injured men were rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences. Pandey succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Bajpai remains in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment at the hospital's emergency unit, police said. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Pandey's brother, Deepak Kumar Pandey, said the family was informed about the accident late at night by the police. "Amit had left Kanpur on Monday evening with his friend. He was seriously injured in the accident and later died during treatment," he said. Pandey was engaged in the computer supply business.
