On test flight, pvt firm's drone crashes into Saifai wheat field
KANPUR, April 5 -- A drone belonging to a private aerospace company crashed into a wheat field in Nandpura village in Etawah district's Saifai area on Friday evening, sending locals into a panic and bringing police and fire brigade teams to the spot.
Confirming the incident, Siddharth Kumar, SDM, Saifai, said the firm had been granted permission to conduct test trials. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was on an authorised test flight to collect weather-related data when it developed a technical fault and came down around 7:30 pm.
The drone, which was damaged in the crash, fell in an agricultural field during the ongoing wheat season. No casualties or injuries were reported.
On receiving information, police and fire brigade personnel reached the spot and cordoned off the area. Curious onlookers who had gathered at the site were kept at a distance as teams inspected the wreckage.
Officials collected information from people in the vicinity as part of the initial inquiry. Officials said the private firm had got clearance for the trial flights from the ministry of civil aviation.
