NSUI-BHU unit stages one-day fast over allegations of vote theft
VARANASI, Oct. 10 -- The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) unit of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) observed a one-day fast on Friday, protesting against the alleged vote theft and demanding the resignation of chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
During the event, speakers highlighted concerns regarding the political climate. Rana Rohit, a research scholar and former president of the NSUI-BHU unit, condemned the recent detention of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, describing the action as "undemocratic and unconstitutional."
Murari Yadav, the current president of the NSUI-BHU unit, stated that holding institutions accountable is essential for the health of the nation's democracy. He alleged that the current government and the election commission have failed in their responsibilities to ensure the credibility of electoral institutions and to protect the public's right to vote. The protest saw the participation of several prominent local figures, including Varanasi Congress president Praja Nath Sharma, NSUI state president Rishabh Pandey, City Congress president Raghavendra Chaubey and City Youth Congress president Chanchal Sharma, alongside other students and party members....
