VARANASI, Aug. 24 -- Ensuring the general public that adequate sugar stock is available in Varanasi, additional district magistrate (civil supplies) Amit Kumar Bharatiya said if any individual or trader is found hoarding or black marketing sugar, the strictest action will be taken against them in accordance with the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act. Bharatiya said in a press release that action will also be taken against those who create artificial shortage or spread misinformation regarding sugar availability in the market. He said the food and civil supplies department is regularly monitoring sugar availability and regulating prices. The officer further said the general public can purchase sugar from the open market according to their needs.
