VARANASI, Aug. 31 -- Nine police stations under the Varanasi Police Commissionerate got new station house officers (SHOs) in a major reshuffle carried out by police commissioner Mohit Agarwal after a crime review meeting on Saturday. The CP sent two SHOs to the Reserve Police Lines and shifted another inspector for posting in a different district. Rajatalab SHO Dayaram and Chowk SHO Inspector Dilip Mishra were sent to the Reserve Police Lines for failing to address public grievances seriously. Manduadih Inspector Ajay Raj Verma has been made Phulpur SHO, Chetganj SHO Vijay Kumar Shukla was shifted to Chowk in the same capacity. Lohta SHO Digambar Upadhyay was transferred to Manduadih in the same capacity, Ramna Outpost In-charge sub inspector Pawan Pandey has been made Chetganj police Station house officer; Media Cell In-charge sub inspector Abhijit Singh has been made Lohta SHO; and senior inspector in Rohaniya Jitendra. Kumar has been made SHO Rajatalab.Agarwal said only SHOs who demonstrate excellence in their work, effective crime control and an active role in addressing public grievances would retain their posts. Negligence in duty would not be tolerated. During the crime review meeting on Saturday night, the Police Commissioner also shifted ACP Cantt Apoorva Pandey to Cyber Crime. Pragya Pathak, who returned from leave, has been posted as ACP Cantt. Agarwal said negligence in traffic management would not be tolerated. He instructed SHOs to conduct regular foot patrols and remove encroachments from roads and footpaths. The respective SHOs would be held responsible for poor traffic management. Directions were also issued for the disposal of pending investigations, strict action in cases of crimes against women and security arrangements for upcoming festivals. Pending investigations involving offences carrying sentences of both under and over 10 years were also reviewed. Prioritising women's safety, the CP directed police to initiate immediate legal action on complaints received.He also stressed the need to effectively solve cases of robbery and chain-snatching and take strict legal action against the perpetrators. The use of provisions under the new laws to facilitate recovery of funds for victims of financial fraud was also highlighted.The CP instructed that CCTV cameras in police stations should remain functional round the clock.
