Nine onboard Bolero burnt alive as truck crash triggers blaze
VARANASI, April 23 -- Eleven people, including nine onboard a Bolero, were killed after two four wheelers, including the Bolero and a car, caught fire when a truck crashed into them near Badka crossing under Drummondganj police station area of Mirzapur on Wednesday night, police said.
In a statement, Mirzapur police said the truck collided from behind with a Swift car, a Bolero and a trailer at around 10:20pm near Badka crossing under the Drummondganj Police Station.
Due to the collision, the Bolero caught fire. Tragically, a total of nine people, including four children onboard the Bolero as also the truck driver lost their lives. Their bodies have been recovered," said Mirzapur police.
The body of the Swift car driver remained trapped inside the vehicle, and efforts to extricate it were underway.
Mirzapur superintendent of police Aparna Rajat Kaushik also inspected the spot. She said that a truck descending the Drummondganj hill suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The truck rammed into two cars before crashing into a trailer parked ahead. The impact left both cars mangled.
Eyewitnesses said the occupants were trapped and trying to escape when the Bolero suddenly caught fire with a loud explosion. Within moments, the blaze intensified, engulfing the vehicle....
