PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 21 -- The body of a newborn baby was found on the bank of the Sasur Khaderi river in Kaushambi district on Saturday morning. People out for a morning walk saw the body near Tilhapur Mode, under Pipri police station, and informed the police. Police sent it for post-mortem examination. Police said the body was first seen in the Makhoopur-Tilhapur Mod area. Officers are questioning residents and checking CCTV cameras to identify those involved. Officials suspect the newborn was abandoned near the riverbank. The exact cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report. After a complaint by Gram Pradhan representative Aqeel Ahmed, a case was registered. A video allegedly showing a dog being shot with an airgun in the Kareli area has caused outrage. The incident is said to have taken place on December 18 in Baliganj, Kareli. Animal activists claimed a security guard at a bungalow shot the dog after it walked over a freshly laid concrete road. They also alleged that the dog's body was later hidden. CCTV footage surfaced online on December 19. After this, animal lovers gathered and submitted a complaint at Kareli police station, demanding action against the guard. Police said the incident has not yet been confirmed.
