New cadre rules may delay promotions: BHU staff express concern
VARANASI, May 27 -- Several employees of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) have expressed dissatisfaction and concern over the recently approved cadre recruitment rules (CRR) model.
The central university's vice-chancellor approved the new rules after the University Grants Commission (UGC) asked universities to formulate them to standardise hiring, promotions and eligibility for non-teaching and academic positions.
An employee claimed that under the new rules, the promotion of non-teaching staff could be delayed. Another employee said that several staff members had already raised objections regarding the implementation of the model but they were not taken note of.
More than 600 representations and objections were reportedly submitted regarding these rules. However, it was alleged that the CRR was forwarded to the vice-chancellor for approval without properly examining these objections and representations.
The employee said concerns are growing that approving the CRR model without wider institutional discussion could affect the university's working environment and employees' morale.
At the same time, the long-pending issue of regularizing contractual employees continues to concern and dissatisfy various sections of the university community. When contacted, Dr Rajesh Singh, BHU public relations officer, said he was unaware of the matter....
