Nehru Park's over 30 hectares to be developed as mini safari
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 23 -- The long-closed Nehru Park is set to be transformed into a mini safari, with authorities planning to develop the sprawling green space into a major tourist and recreational attraction for residents and visitors.
Divisional commissioner Lokesh M inspected the park on Thursday along with Brigadier Navneet Dagar, deputy GOC of Purva UP-MP Sub Area, municipal commissioner Sai Teja, Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) vice-chairman Rishi Raj, the Cantonment Board's DEO and other officials.
During the visit, officials assessed the park's landscape, topography and available land. They decided to develop the over 30-hectare park exclusively as a mini safari, featuring an entrance plaza, mud tracks and habitats for different species of deer and birds.
Officials said educational exhibits and information centers would also be set up to familiarise children with wildlife, biodiversity and nature conservation. A detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared to finalise the plan.
A drone-based topographical survey will be conducted as part of the planning process. The Army and the PDA will also sign an MoU to define their respective responsibilities. The DPR will be prepared with inputs from the forest department and subject experts.
The divisional commissioner asked the divisional forest officer to help develop vegetation suited to the park's natural environment and proposed safari. Army authorities were also requested to extend the necessary support for the project.
Officials also discussed the park's long-term operation and maintenance. The PDA will oversee its development and upkeep, with revenue generated from the facility being used to meet maintenance and operational costs....
