Narhi school escalates legal battle to protect 90-year-old institution
Lucknow, June 8 -- The management of the 90-year-old co-educational Vidya Mandir Girls High School in Narhi on Sunday said it has intensified its legal and public campaign to save the institution following an alleged forcible takeover of the property that, it claims, has put the future of underprivileged students at risk.
School manager Santosh Rastogi alleged that outsiders entered the campus on Thursday and removed school property, leading to protests by parents, students and teachers on Sunday.
According to her, classroom fans were dismantled and thrown into an open field, while rented cooling equipment was locked away despite the intense summer heat. She also alleged that cupboards containing important records, stock registers and newly purchased school uniforms were broken open.
Rastogi said teachers had pooled personal funds to buy uniforms for children from a local orphanage studying at the school. The institution, which provides education from Classes 1 to 10, runs an integration programme with Bal Shishu Grah, transporting children to the campus daily.
The management has sent complaints to several authorities and is preparing legal action. Claiming uninterrupted possession of the land for 90 years, school officials said they would pursue the matter up to the Supreme Court if necessary to safeguard their rights and ensure students continue their education.
"We will do whatever it takes to protect our legal rights and our students' future," Rastogi said. She also warned of intensified protests if authorities fail to intervene. htc...
