Kanpur, June 20 -- The disappearance of the hands from the iconic clock atop Kanpur's Lal Imli tower has sparked a mystery, prompting the Union Ministry of Textiles to seek a detailed report on whether they were blown away during recent storms or stolen. The missing hands were first noticed on June 5. While Lal Imli management initially blamed strong winds and adverse weather, the possibility of theft has now come under scrutiny. The ministry has asked the British India Corporation to determine the cause of the disappearance. The incident has renewed concerns over the condition of the 128-foot clock tower, built between 1911 and 1921 and regarded as a symbol of Kanpur's industrial heritage. Employee union leaders say years of neglect since the mill shut down in 2013 have weakened the structure. The episode has also raised security concerns.
