Muslim clerics slam UP minister over Azaan remarks
Lucknow, May 19 -- Senior Muslim clerics have strongly criticised Uttar Pradesh minister Jaiveer Singh over his recent remarks on the Azaan, calling the statement "highly condemnable" and demanding an unconditional apology to the Muslim community.
Chairman of the Islamic Centre of India and executive member of the AIMPLB, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali, said Islam teaches respect for all religions and expected the same from others. "The statement made by a minister in UP regarding Azaan is highly condemnable. We expect the minister to apologise to the Muslim community," he said.
Prominent Shia cleric Maulana Yasoob Abbas also criticised the remarks.
