Municipal corporation collects Rs 493 cr house tax, steps up drive to meet target
LUCKNOW, March 8 -- With only 24 days remaining in the current fiscal, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has intensified its house tax recovery drive after collecting Rs 493 crore from properties across the state capital so far, officials said.
According to data shared by the municipal corporation, the civic body has set a house tax collection target of Rs 647 crore for the current financial year. Officials indicated that the corporation still needs to recover a significant amount before March 31 to meet the target.
The civic body has issued instructions to all zonal offices to accelerate the recovery process and ensure maximum tax collection in the remaining days of the financial year. As part of the intensified drive, the municipal corporation has decided to keep all zonal offices and cash counters open on Sunday, March 8, despite it being a holiday. The counters will function from 10 am to 2 pm to facilitate taxpayers who wish to deposit their dues.
Officials said that during this period, house tax assessments of building owners will also be conducted and relevant data will be entered into the municipal system so that property owners do not face inconvenience in completing their tax-related formalities. The civic body has also planned to organise special tax collection camps in different wards of the city.
