PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 8 -- Prayagraj's Mundera Mandi and six affiliated sub-mandis are being revamped at a cost of Rs.26 lakh to improve infrastructure and sanitation facilities for traders and farmers. The main mandi and its sub-mandis in the development blocks of Phulpur, Jari, Koraon, Sirsa, Lediyari and Jasra had fallen into disrepair over the years. Dilapidated entrance gates, clogged drains, garbage piles, and crumbling plaster in rooms had made daily operations difficult for traders and visitors. Wastewater often overflowed onto internal roads, creating unhygienic conditions across the market premises. To address these issues, Rajya Krishi Utpadan Mandi Parishad director Jitendra Pratap Singh launched the 'Swachh Mandi-Shubh Mandi Abhiyan 2026' in the first week of October. The initiative aims to make mandis cleaner, better organised and more aesthetically appealing. Under the campaign, Rs.8 lakh was sanctioned for the Mundera Mandi headquarters, while each of the six sub-mandis was allocated Rs.3 lakh. Renovation work began soon after the funds were released. The administrative building housing the Mandi Secretary's office has been repaired and given a fresh coat of paint, while nearly 300 commission agent shops have also been repainted. Renovation of gates 1 and 2 is nearing completion, and accumulated waste has been cleared from the mandi premises. The next phase of the project, including the construction of toilets, drains, and water tanks, will begin after Diwali....
