Multiplex tickets to be dearer, townships under house tax net
Lucknow, Sept. 10 -- In a move that will directly impact city residents and moviegoers, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) House on Tuesday approved a significant hike in tax on multiplexes and brought integrated townships like Ansals under the property tax net for the first time.
The municipal tax on cinema halls and multiplexes has been increased from Rs.200 to Rs.300 per show. The decision is likely to increase movie ticket prices across the city, as multiplex operators may pass the burden on to consumers.
"This tax adjustment is part of LMC's effort to increase revenue while maintaining urban infrastructure," said mayor Sushma Kharkwal.
Residents of integrated townships, which were previously outside the municipal tax ambit, will now have to pay house tax. This move is aimed at ensuring parity in taxation and boosting the civic body's resources for infrastructure and services.
To regulate city traffic and public transport, the House gave a long-pending nod to 83 designated auto-tempo stands, ending a 2.5-year deadlock.
Around 6,200 autos and tempos will now operate from authorised stands.
Tenders for managing these stands will be floated within 15 days.
The long-awaited smart parking project was also cleared, covering 73 locations citywide. Private operators will manage the system through five-year contracts awarded via open bidding.
Mayor Sushma Kharkwal put 12 development proposals on hold due to missing minutes from the executive committee meeting.
These include: Land for Bhartendu Natya Akademi, 39 MLD STP sludge disposal (Namami Gange), Community centres, power substations, and puja sthal, directorate for specially-abled in Ahimamau and restarting the defunct Asia Bioenergy waste-to-energy plant....
