Mughal-era silver coins found
GORAKHPUR, June 11 -- A cache of 330 ancient silver coins, believed to date back to the Mughal era, was unearthed from an agricultural field in Kushinagar district, officials said on Wednesday.
The coins were found inside a buried brass vessel during excavation work in Gopalpur Ojhawalia village under Taryasujan police station limits. The pot broke open, scattering hundreds of coins and attracting local residents.
So far, 330 coins have been recovered and handed over to the revenue department.
Preliminary examination suggests the coins are several centuries old and bear Persian inscriptions. Archaeological experts will examine the cache to determine its exact age, origin and historical significance. HTC...
