Mother, newborn dieafter delivery; kin allege negligence
LUCKNOW, Oct. 6 -- A 28-year-old woman and her newborn died following childbirth at Lok Bandhu Raj Narain (LBRN) Hospital on Kanpur Road, with the family alleging medical negligence. The hospital administration has constituted an inquiry committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Anurag Singh, a resident of Auras in Unnao currently living in Buddheshwar area in Lucknow, said he brought his wife, Usha Singh, to the hospital around 12 noon on Sunday after she went into labour.
The family alleged that after examination, doctors administered an injection and sent her home instead of admitting her.
According to Anurag, Usha developed severe labour pain in the evening and was being taken back to the hospital by ambulance when she delivered the baby en route. The family alleged that both mother and newborn developed complications following excessive bleeding.
Usha and the newborn were admitted to Lok Bandhu around 8:14 pm. The newborn was shifted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) but was declared dead around 30 minutes later, the family has alleged.
Usha was later referred to Queen Mary's Hospital, King George's Medical University, after allegedly receiving one unit of blood. She died in the ambulance before reaching the hospital.
"We have taken cognisance of the incident. An inquiry is being conducted, and action will be taken against anyone found guilty," said Dr Vivek Gupta, director, Lok Bandhu Raj Narain hospital....
