LUCKNOW, Aug. 6 -- There is a likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state due to monsoon activity until Saturday. Consequently, active monsoon conditions are likely to prevail in the state over the next 2 to 3 days, bringing heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. The weatherman said that this is due to shifting of the monsoon trough passing near its normal position through Shahjahanpur, Sultanpur and influenced by distinct cyclonic circulations. IMD predicted a high probability of heavy rainfall (yellow alert) in 12 districts: Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Etah, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Jhansi, Lalitpur, and surrounding regions. With parts of UP receiving moderate to heavy rainfall, the rain deficit in the state reduced from 29% on Monday to 25% on Wednesday in the last 48 hours. Likewise, the rain deficit in East UP reduced from 34% to 30% and West UP decreased from 19% to 15% for this same period, according to district-wise seasonal rainfall distribution data from IMD. UP has received 296.4 mm of rainfall against a long period average of 384.1 mm since June 1, a deficit of 25%. East UP recorded 293.7 mm of rainfall against a normal of 421.8 mm, a deficit of 30%, and West UP experienced 300.3 mm of rain against a normal of 355.3 mm, a deficit of 15%, according to IMD's datasheet. Meanwhile, Lucknow's rain deficit reduced sharply, from 42% on Monday to 33% on Wednesday.
