MLA proposes 18-pt action plan for accountable system
LUCKNOW, May 22 -- After BJP MLA (Lucknow North) Neeraj Bora, another party MLA Rajeshwar Singh (Sarojini Nagar) has written to energy minister AK Sharma, suggesting a comprehensive reform and emergency action framework for improving Lucknow's power supply system. The proposal includes an 18-point action plan aimed at building a permanent, data-driven and accountable electricity distribution system for the city.
The MLA's recommendations include a complete feeder-wise and transformer-wise analysis of all power complaints from the current and previous year, mandatory root-cause identification of every recurring fault and prioritisation of "red-zone" localities where repeated outages are reported. He has also called for installation of higher-capacity transformers in overloaded areas, feeder balancing, load redistribution and technical audits of low-voltage zones based on cable capacity, distance from substations and load patterns.
Other key suggestions include creation of senior officer-led quick response teams under the supervision of UPPCL, real-time complaint monitoring systems, GIS-based mapping of underground cable faults, AI-based load forecasting and deployment of mobile repair vans and emergency response units during heatwave months. The MLA also proposed substation-level public grievance desks, SMS-based restoration time updates and stricter accountability for delayed repairs.
On the infrastructure side, the letter emphasises approval of new residential and commercial loads strictly based on feeder and transformer capacity, action against power theft and overload misuse, promotion of rooftop solar systems, energy-efficient appliances and better planning for emerging EV-related demand.
He stressed that electricity planning should involve consultation with local MPs and MLAs to ensure ground realities are properly reflected.
The concerns come amid severe disruption in multiple parts of Sarojini Nagar constituency, where residents are facing frequent power cuts, low voltage, transformer failures and repeated feeder tripping. Affected localities include Utrethia, Bijnaur, Amausi, Piparsand, Gahru and Bani power house areas, among others....
