Minor girl allegedly gang-raped in Lucknow's Ashiana
LUCKNOW, April 8 -- A 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five youths in an under-construction building in the Ashiana police station area on Tuesday evening. Alert locals, hearing the victim's screams, surrounded the building and helped apprehend the suspects.
Police sources said the victim, a resident of Sector M who works as domestic help, was returning home after work when the incident occurred. According to police sources, the five accused intercepted her and forcibly dragged her into a nearby vacant construction site.
Passersby heard commotion and cries for help coming from the building and quickly caight the five youths as they attempted to flee the scene.
"Upon receiving information from the local residents, the Ashiana Inspector reached the spot. The police managed to secure the five youths from the building and took them into custody," a senior police official said.
The suspects have been shifted to the Ashiyana police station for questioning. While the police are currently verifying the details of all those detained, a formal FIR is expected to be registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"The victim has been admitted to a local hospital where she is undergoing treatment and medical examination. The condition of the girl is being monitored, and further investigation is underway," the police added.
The Lucknow Police on Tuesday sent Gudamba SHO Prabhatesh Kumar Srivastava to Police Lines, days after the Vikasnagar firing incident involving absconding history-sheeter Rohit Singh raised questi- ons over local policing and surveillance. Police had recovered two shells and one live cartridge from the spot.
A woman allegedly attempted self-immolation near gate no. 3 of Lok Bhawan in the Hazratganj area on Tuesday afternoon but police personnel present at the scene rescued her in time. The incident took place around 12:40 pm. She was taken to the Hazratganj police station, where officials said she is being counselled and questioned, adding that further legal proceedings are underway. "Preliminary inquiry revealed the woman is involved in a land dispute in the Manaknagar area and had approached the revenue department multiple times for property demarcation," said Hazratganj SHO Vikram Singh.
A speeding car allegedly driven by a teenager hit a motorcyclist near the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cantt) on Purani Jail Road in Lucknow on Monday morning, leaving the rider injured, police said on Tuesday.
Alambagh inspector Ram Babu Singh said the injured man had already been taken to hospital by passersby before police arrived. "The vehicle has been seized. Efforts are underway to trace the owner and the driver using chassis number," he said.
The injured man was dragged along the road before bystanders rushed to his aid and admitted him to a nearby private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
His identity is yet to be established, police said. After the accident, the occupants of the vehicle fled the spot, leaving the damaged car behind....
