Mini truck driven on railway track halts trains, major mishap averted
PRAYAGRAJ, May 19 -- A major railway accident was narrowly avoided on the Sultanpur-Varanasi rail route on Monday after a mini truck driver drove his vehicle onto the tracks to bypass a closed railway crossing.
The incident took place near Nima Gopalpur halt in Sultanpur when the driver, heading towards Pratapgarh, avoided waiting at the crossing and drove the truck onto the railway line. Two wheels ran between the rails while the other two remained outside the track.
The driver continued along the tracks for nearly two kilometres towards Koeripur before the vehicle got stuck in the ballast. He then abandoned the truck and fled. Train services on the busy route were immediately suspended. Train movement resumed around 9.30am. Koeripur station master Rohit Yadav said the truck carried a Delhi registration number and efforts were underway to identify the owner and trace the driver.htc...
