Min slams SP chief for 'misleading' public, backs poll panel
LUCKNOW, Aug. 18 -- Water resources minister Swatantra Dev Singh on Sunday lashed out at Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of desperation and frustration after a string of electoral defeats.
Responding to Yadav's allegations against the Election Commission (EC) over revision of voter lists in Bihar, Singh said the SP leader was attempting to mislead the public. He urged Yadav to "clean up his party's tarnished record" during its rule in Uttar Pradesh before speaking about democracy.
The minister accused Yadav of promoting "goondaraj" rather than upholding democratic values, and dismissed his allegations against the EC as "baseless and false."
He stated that the poll panel had conducted thorough investigations and found no evidence to support Yadav's claims.
Singh alleged that the Samajwadi Party's history was replete with incidents of booth capturing, voter list manipulation and election-related violence. Singh cited the 2012-2017 period, alleging Uttar Pradesh witnessed "goondaraj" instead of democracy under the SP rule.
Praising the poll panel for its transparency and impartiality, the minister attributed the SP's "frustration" to the poll panel's strict measures against booth capturing and efforts to ensure fair elections....
