Milkman decamps with jewellery worth Rs.12L from customer's house
LUCKNOW, July 1 -- Two people, including a 19-year-old milkman, were arrested for allegedly stealing jewellery worth over Rs.12 lakh from a customer's house, police said on Tuesday.
The prime accused, Mayank Verma, used to deliver milk to the complainant, Prashant Mani Tripathi, at his residence in Mohammadpur Khatri under the Gudamba police station limits, said additional deputy commissioner of police (East) Amol Murkut.
According to police, Mayank was aware that the family had travelled out of the city. After noticing the house remained locked for several days, he allegedly confirmed no one was home and conspired with 20-year-old Abhishek Yadav to carry out the burglary, added Murkut.
The burglary came to light after Tripathi lodged an FIR on June 28, alleging that unidentified persons had broken into his house and decamped with cash and jewellery. Acting on technical evidence and local intelligence, Gudamba police arrested the accused from the Kukrail forest area on Tuesday and recovered the allegedly stolen cash and jewellery before they could dispose of it, Gudamba SHO Anjani Kumar Mishra said.
The recovered valuables included four gold rings, a mangalsutra, two gold chains, a gold necklace, earrings, nose ornaments, a pendant, silver anklets, waist chains, children's bangles, toe rings, a wristwatch and Rs.138 in coins. Police estimated the value of the recovered jewellery at over Rs.12 lakh.
According to police, the accused allegedly confessed during interrogation that they targeted the house after confirming the family was away and planned to sell the stolen jewellery for quick money.
A case has been registered under sections 305(a), 331(4) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police said. htc...
