Methamphetamine worth Rs.1 crore seized, five arrested
Pratapgarh, June 9 -- police arrested five alleged drug smugglers and seized 202.31 grams of MD (methamphetamine) worth nearly Rs.1 crore during a joint operation by Aaspur Devsara police and a special team on Sunday night. Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted an Ertiga car and a number plate-less motorcycle on the Saifabad-Mauraini road. The accused were allegedly transporting the narcotics for sale. Police have impounded the vehicles, sent the accused to jail and launched raids to trace other suspects linked to the network.
A 30-year-old contractual lineman was found brutally murdered in Kaushambi district on Monday, with his beheaded body recovered from a deserted area near Miranpur village under the Charwa police station limits. Police suspect personal enmity linked to a relationship with a young woman.
The deceased was identified as Rajkumar alias Raju, a resident of Pansaur village. He worked as a contractual lineman in the electricity department.
Cyber fraudsters allegedly hacked the official mobile number of Prayagraj Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Anil Kumar and used it to send messages seeking money from teachers and acquaintances on Monday. Cyber police have started an investigation into the matter and are tracing the numbers involved in the suspected fraud.
Police have registered a case of life-threatening assault against the proprietor of a nursing home in Pratapgarh's Paltan Bazaar area and several others after family members of a newborn girl alleged they were attacked following the infant's death. City Kotwali SHO Subhash Yadav said an FIR had been lodged in connection with the alleged assault. He added that a report has also been sought from the Chief Medical Officer regarding allegations of medical negligence in the newborn's death.
Police have arrested and jailed a man and his wife accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and later attempting to burn her alive in Prayagraj's Shivkuti area. According to police, the victim's 17-year-old brother lodged a complaint against four people in connection with the incident. Shivkuti police said the accused uncle and aunt have been arrested and sent to jail, while further investigation in the case is underway....
