Mercury slips below20degC in parts of state
Lucknow, Oct. 11 -- Night temperature in some cities of Uttar Pradesh has dropped below 20degC, marking a gradual fall in the minimum temperature and the onset of a winter nip in the air from early Friday morning.
The maximum and minimum temperatures in the state capital were 31.2degC and 20.6degC respectively - both below normal. The night temperature in Lucknow, however, had been hovering around 21degC for the past few days.
The forecast for Saturday indicates a sunny day with a clear sky and mist in the morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32degC and 21degC respectively.
Neighbouring districts Barabanki and Bulandshahr recorded the lowest temperatures in the state, with the mercury dipping to 18degC. In Kanpur, it was 18.4degC; Meerut, 18.8degC; Ayodhya and Muzaffarnagar, 19degC; Agra and Bareilly, 19.1degC; Najibabad, 19.2degC; Jhansi, 19.4degC; Hardoi and Fursatganj, 19.5degC; and Aligarh, 19.6degC. The overall state forecast predicts mostly dry weather.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from most parts of UP and there will be no significant change in the minimum temperature over the next one week in the absence of overcast sky and rain. But there will be a slight increase in the maximum temperature, due to which the temperature is likely to remain normal or below normal at most of the places, said the weatherman.
According to the Met office, after the southwest monsoon withdrew from most parts of western Uttar Pradesh in two phases on September 24 and 26, rainfall thereafter caused by successive active weather systems has come to an end.
