Meerut, July 16 -- A 25-year-old woman in Meerut allegedly stabbed her sister-in-law to death after suspecting her of having an illicit relationship with her husband, before surrendering to police two days later after being consumed by guilt. The deceased has been identified as Nida. Investigators say the victim's in-laws initially tried to conceal the crime by claiming she had died after slipping and falling inside the house. The incident took place on July 12 in Ahmed Nagar under the Lisari Gate police station limits. Police have arrested the accused Rimsha, recovered the knife allegedly used in the murder, and launched an investigation into the role of other family members, who allegedly attempted to cover up the killing. The victim's husband and several members of her in-laws' family are currently absconding. According to police, Rimsha voluntarily appeared before investigators on July 14 and confessed to the crime. "I could not sleep after the incident. My husband and my sister-in-law had been in a relationship for the last four years. I repeatedly asked her to stay away from him, but she told me to first control my own husband before accusing her. I lost my temper, picked up a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her several times in the chest," she allegedly told police during questioning. The family resides in Ahmed Nagar. Haji Zahid, the head of the family, has been running a tailoring business for nearly four decades. He has two sons, Shahvez and Shazeb, and a daughter, Rimsha. While Haji Zahid manages the family's original tailoring shop in Subhash Bazaar, Shahvez oversees another branch in Ahmed Nagar. About six years ago, Shahvez married Nida alias Soni, 28, a resident of Kidwai Nagar. The couple has two children. Rimsha was married around eight months ago to Owais, a resident of Karim Nagar, nearly three kilometres away, who operates an online clothing business. According to neighbours, Owais frequently visited Shahvez's house because of the family's clothing business. During these visits, he allegedly developed a close relationship with Nida. Rimsha had reportedly objected to their interactions on several occasions. Police said the simmering tension eventually culminated in violence on the afternoon of July 12. Family members took Nida to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Police said the family initially attempted to portray the death as an accident. However, the victim's family disputed the claim. Based on their complaint, circle officer Sangram Singh and the Lisari Gate police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Initially, Rimsha also maintained before police that Nida had been injured after falling. However, two days later, she surrendered and confessed to killing her sister-in-law.Circle officer Sangram Singh said the investigation established that Rimsha was upset over the alleged growing closeness between the deceased and her husband....
