Media influencer held for circulating obscene videos, photographs
PRAYAGRAJ, May 11 -- A joint team of the Cantonment Police and the Special Operations Group arrested a media influencer accused of creating AI-generated obscene photos and videos of an advocate from Rajapur and circulating them on social media. The accused allegedly produced and shared semi-nude images and videos of the woman, then demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest other named co-accused in the case.
According to an FIR lodged on May 8, the advocate stated that she was handling a divorce case involving a woman whose husband, Mohammad Alam, and brother-in-law, Noor Alam, allegedly threatened her. She claimed they warned her that she would be defamed on social media and falsely implicated in a rape case if she did not withdraw from the legal proceedings and pay Rs 10 lakh. The FIR further alleges that on May 2, AI-generated obscene photos and videos featuring the advocate were created and circulated through multiple Instagram and Facebook accounts.
Acting on inputs from the Cyber Cell and other electronic evidence, police arrested Sumit Gupta, a resident of New Bairahana locality under Kydganj police station area, who operates Facebook and Instagram accounts.
An iPhone was recovered from his possession. SHO of Cantonment police station Amarnath Rai said teams are continuing their efforts to arrest the remaining accused.
On Saturday night, two youths on a motorcycle were attacked near Babupur village under Ghoorpur police station area of Prayagraj, by a group of more than half a dozen people who were allegedly lying in ambush.
One of the youths was brutally assaulted with iron rods and sharp-edged tools, leaving him in a critical condition. On receiving information, a UP Dial 112 police team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured youth to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Chaka. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was later admitted to a private hospital in the city.
According to a complaint submitted to the Ghoorpur police by Chhotelal Patel, a resident of Chilli village under the Ghoorpur police station limits, the incident occurred around 9 pm. He stated that his son Dilip Kumar and another villager, Lala Patel, were returning home after attending a wedding and having dinner in Murlikot Baswar. When they reached near Babupur Tower, their motorcycle was intercepted by a group comprising Umashankar, Anurag Patel, Azad Patel, Anuj Kumar, Ritesh Kumar, and three unidentified individuals. The complaint alleges that on Umashankar's instigation, the group abused Dilip and then attacked him collectively with iron rods and sharp-edged tools.
