Mayor cracks down on waste collection gaps, encroachments
LUCKNOW, June 2 -- Mayor Sushma Kharkwal has directed the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) to identify households that refuse to hand over waste despite regular door-to-door collection services and initiate action against repeated violations. The directive comes with an eye on the Swachh Survekshan-2026 assessments and the monsoon season drawing near.
The mayor also ordered a ward-wise review of waste collection coverage. Chairing a coordination and review meeting at the Zone-4 (Gomti Nagar) on Monday, the mayor reviewed sanitation, drainage cleaning, encroachment removal, revenue recovery and civic amenities with officials and public representatives. She stressed that improving the ground-level sanitation and ensuring complete waste collection coverage remain critical to the city's performance in Swachh Survekshan-2026. Kharkwal directed officials to prepare detailed reports on areas where residents continue to dump waste despite the availability of collection vehicles.htc...
