Mayor asks LMC to resolve tax grievances, fix sanitation lapses
LUCKNOW, June 28 -- Mayor Sushma Kharkwal on Saturday set a one-week deadline for the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) to resolve all pending property tax (annual rental value) and water tax-related grievances. With the monsoon approaching, she also directed officials to address sanitation lapses across the city and launch a crackdown on encroachments, an official release stated on Saturday.
Chairing a review meeting at the Smart City Auditorium, the mayor and municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar instructed all zonal officers to verify property records in their respective areas and submit compliance reports within seven days. The move aims to address long-pending tax assessment disputes and improve civic service delivery.
Reviewing monsoon preparedness, the mayor asked officials to complete desilting and cleaning of all major and minor drains before the onset of rains, warning that no negligence would be tolerated as waterlogging remains a recurring concern in several parts of the city.
The civic body also adopted a zero-tolerance policy against encroachments. Zonal officers were directed to conduct regular enforcement drives, remove encroachments from public spaces and take strict action against those responsible for littering and unhygienic conditions.
Reviewing infrastructure projects, Kharkwal instructed officials to prioritise road construction in densely populated localities instead of areas with vacant plots. She also stressed that construction quality must not be compromised under any circumstances.
Senior officials, including additional municipal commissioners, chief engineers, departmental heads and all zonal officers, attended the meeting, where the progress of Smart City projects, sanitation, drainage and road development works was also reviewed....
