Lucknow, Oct. 2 -- Virtually unknown in Uttar Pradesh's electoral scene, 49-year-old Kante Sayanna, a Telangana businessman with modest assets, filed his nomination Rajya Sabha election on Thursday. The nomination process for the Upper House election for 10 seats began on Tuesday, and voting, if necessary, will take place on October 16. Sayanna, son of Kante Peddulu, is a resident of Hyderabad, Telangana. This is not the first time Sayanna has contested or attempted to stand in elections. Most recently, he filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha in March 2026, where his papers were rejected. An officer associated with the Rajya Sabha poll process said: "A person can file nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha without a proposer, but during the scrutiny of the nomination papers, such nominations are rejected. According to rules, 10 proposers who are sitting MLAs are required to file the nomination papers." According to the National Election Watch website, Kante Sayanna has been filing nominations-for Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha, and assembly elections-and contesting elections since 2014. He has made over a dozen attempts in several states, including Odisha, Maharashtra, and his home state. htc...
