Rudrapur, Aug. 29 -- A 25-year-old man, alleged to be the mastermind of a cyber fraud racket, has been arrested from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, Udham Singh Nagar police said on Thursday. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manikant Mishra said that seven members of the gang had earlier been arrested, but the mastermind of the racket, Rohit Soni, had been absconding since May. "The accused was tracked down and nabbed around in Gwalior on Wednesday. He has a criminal history and is wanted in cyber crime cases in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh as well," he said. He further said that Soni carried a reward of Rs.25,000 on his arrest and has been sent to jail after being produced in court. The case dates to May 19, when Harbansh Lal, a resident of Shanti Colony in Rudrapur, lodged a complaint at Rudrapur police station alleging that Rs.54,999 had been fraudulently withdrawn from his State Bank of India account. Police registered a case under BNS Section 318 (cheating) and launched an investigation. The probe led to the arrest of Manoj Saini and Ajay Saini of Kashipur, Satyapal Singh and Poras Kumar of Moradabad, Vishuraj Maurya of Bijnor, Ritik Solanki of Agra and Sheru Singh of Gwalior. Investigators later identified Rohit Soni as the kingpin of the gang, but he managed to evade arrest until this week. "His arrest is a major breakthrough as he was coordinating operations of the entire gang. With him behind bars, the network has been dismantled," Mishra added....
