Manhunt for gangster Udham Singh after bail revoked in forgery case
MEERUT, May 16 -- Police teams in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi have launched a large-scale manhunt for western Uttar Pradesh gangster Udham Singh, after his bail was revoked in a forgery case last month.
Meerut senior superintendent of police Avinash Pandey on Wednesday announced a Rs.25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, while the Special Task Force has also intensified efforts to locate him.
Udham Singh, the alleged leader of the D-50 gang, was released from Unnao jail on March 26 after serving four years and eight months in prison. However, soon after his release, authorities alleged that he had obtained bail using forged documents, including a fake Aadhaar card.
The matter surfaced after a man identified as Anwar lodged an FIR at Sarurpur police station on April 9, 2026, alleging that a man named Shekhar had approached him with a promise of securing a loan without charging any brokerage fee. Shekhar allegedly collected Anwar's Aadhaar and PAN cards and later took him to the Sardhana Court Complex, where he was reportedly made to sign several documents.
According to the complaint, no loan was ever sanctioned, and Anwar was later allegedly threatened and forced to leave. He subsequently discovered that the documents and signatures collected under the pretext of loan processing had reportedly been used to obtain bail for gangster Udham Singh.
Following the registration of the FIR, police submitted a report to the court, which subsequently cancelled the bail granted to Udham Singh and issued a non-bailable warrant against him. Since then, multiple police teams have been carrying out raids at his suspected hideouts across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi.
"Five police teams are actively searching for gangster Udham Singh. Raids are being carried out at all possible hideouts, and information is also being gathered from his associates. He will be arrested soon," said Abhijeet Kumar, Meerut superintendent of police (Rural).
Amid the ongoing search operation, a video allegedly from July 22, 2021, has gone viral on social media, purportedly showing then Sardhana circle officer RP Shahi visiting Udham Singh's residence in Karnawal village with a Sarurpur police team. In the clip, Udham Singh appears relaxed while accompanying police for questioning, with family members and officers seen laughing during the interaction. The video has sparked criticism online, with many questioning police's handling of gangster.
However, police declined to comment on the viral video, stating only that charges under the Gangster Act have been invoked against Udham Singh and that he will be arrested soon....
