Man uses fake 'father' in land deal, cheats buyer of Rs.4 lakh
LUCKNOW, April 7 -- A man allegedly arranged a fake stand-in for his missing father to execute a property sale and cheat a buyer of nearly Rs.4 lakh. The alleged mastermind was arrested from the Mohanlalganj area on Sunday, police said on Monday. According to a release, the accused, identified as Salikram, 45, a resident of Nagram, conspired with his associates to illegally sell ancestral land registered in his father's name.
Police said Salikram's father had been missing for years and his whereabouts were unknown. The accused allegedly hid this fact and planned a fake land deal. Investigators said Salikram brought in a relative, his father-in-law's elder brother, and presented him as his father during the registry process. Forged documents were prepared and submitted at the sub-registrar's office. To make the deal appear genuine, Salikram and his wife signed as witnesses on the sale deed. The land was first transferred to his associates, who later sold it to the complainant, Guddi Devi of Vrindavan Yojana.
Police said the complainant was lured with the promise of one bigha of land at a lower price. She allegedly paid around Rs.4 lakh, including Rs.2.47 lakh transferred directly to the accused's bank account. However, she received neither possession of the land nor a valid registry in her name.
The fraud came to light after a dispute within the accused's family, when his brother objected to the transaction. This led to the land being reverted to the family's name. Following a complaint, police registered a case at the Mohanlalganj police station. htc...
