LUCKNOW, Feb. 16 -- A 50-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his nephews in a brazen attack following a high-speed car chase in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district on Saturday, police said. The assailants reportedly rammed his car repeatedly with two SUVs before dragging him out and shooting him in the head, killing him instantly. The incident occurred in the Garhiya Rangin police station area when the victim, identified as Veeresh Singh of Khamaria village, was on his way to offer prayers at a Shiva temple in Gogepur on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. According to police, Singh was travelling in a car with one of his nephews and three acquaintances when he was allegedly chased by other nephews. The attackers reportedly sandwiched Singh's vehicle between their SUVs and rammed it repeatedly from the front and rear, forcing it off the road into a ditch. Even after the car veered into the ditch, the accused allegedly continued hitting the vehicle. As the occupants tried to flee, the attackers dragged Singh out and shot him at close range. He died instantly. The assailants also assaulted the other occupants of the car. Five people travelling with Singh sustained injuries from the collision and assault. They were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Shahjahanpur SP Rajesh Dwivedi reached the spot with a police team and conducted a preliminary inspection. Initial investigation indicates the murder stemmed from a long-running family dispute over land. Police said Singh had ongoing tensions with his nephews over property matters. Family members alleged that Singh had been influencing his nephew Prashant in a property disagreement. According to Avadhesh Singh, Prashant's father, five brothers had jointly purchased an 800-square-yard plot. However, Prashant allegedly got the plot registered in his own name and later constructed a flour mill on it, triggering the dispute.htc...
