IMPHAL, Sept. 24 -- A 36-year-old power line worker was shot dead by unknown armed miscreants on Wednesday in Manipur's Tamenglong district, while all the houses in two villages were set ablaze in Kangpokpi district, police said. According to officials, the firing incident took place around 4 am at Lasan village under the jurisdiction of Tamei police station, when the man, a Kuki, identified as Paojangam Chongloi of Wakotphai village (Kuki village) was engaged in line repair work in the village. Officer-in-charge of Tamei police station Md Saphi said, "As my police team is not able to reach the spot, we have requested Kangpokpi police to conduct an investigation." "A complaint has been lodged by one Thanggunhao Hangshing identified as secretary of a local body of Wakotphai village at Tamei police station in the matter. No FIR has been registered yet," said a Kangpokpi police officer. The complainant alleged that cadres of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) Issac Muivah faction, a Naga group, was behind the killing. Meanwhile, hours after the killing, unknown armed miscreants set ablaze two Naga villages- Makui Khuman and Makui Thanamba/Chamruioiu- under the jurisdiction of Chalwa police station, the officer said. The two villages have around 12 households each and since the Kuki-Naga clash, all the residents are taking shelter at Makui Khunjao which is located around 12 km from the two villages. "24 houses of both the villages were reduced to ashes. No security was deployed," a resident of Makui Khuman said....
