Gorakhpur, May 14 -- A man allegedly shot dead his sister-in-law inside a locked room before killing himself in Kushinagar on Wednesday morning, police said, suspecting domestic tension behind the tragic incident. The incident took place in a village under the jurisdiction of Tamkuhi Raj Police Station. The double tragedy triggered panic in the neighbourhood as relatives and locals rushed to the house after hearing consecutive gunshots. Both the victims were found lying in a pool of blood after the door was opened, police officials said. Circle officer Jayant Yadav said the accused had locked himself inside a room with his wife's younger sister shortly before the firing. Police and forensic teams reached the spot soon after receiving information and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. SHO Girjesh Upadhyay said, "Prima facie, the matter appears to be linked to a domestic or personal dispute. However, all possible angles are being investigated." He added that statements of the relatives and neighbours are being recorded, while forensic evidence collected from the scene is also being examined. According to police officials, the deceased man got married around 10 months ago. His father-in-law stated that his son-in-law had arrived at his residence on Tuesday. On Wednesday at around 9.30am, he allegedly called his 18-year-old sister-in-law into a room before taking the extreme step. The incident has sent shockwaves across the area.
