PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 17 -- A man from Mahuli in Pratapgarh allegedly lost Rs.1.91 lakh after being promised a lucrative job in Canada. Police have registered a case following a complaint to the superintendent of police (SP) and started an investigation to arrest the accused. According to police, Krishna Kumar Rai's brother, a resident of Mahuli under the City Kotwali police station area, had earlier worked as a driver in Qatar. During his stay there, he became acquainted with Amandeep Singh Brar, a resident of Muktsar in Punjab, who was also working as a driver. After returning to India, Amandeep allegedly contacted Rai's brother and claimed that he was living in Canada. He reportedly offered to arrange a high-paying job there and said Rs.15 lakh would be required as a bribe to secure the employment. He initially demanded Rs.2 lakh as an advance. Believing his assurance, Krishna Kumar transferred Rs.1.91 lakh from his wife's bank account to Amandeep's account. However, after receiving the money, the accused allegedly stopped answering phone calls and could no longer be contacted. Suspecting fraud, Krishna Kumar approached the SP and lodged a complaint. On the SP's directions, police registered a case against Amandeep Singh Brar and started an investigation.
