PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 19 -- A man allegedly strangled his wife and two-year-old son to death at their home in Pratapgarh district over a dispute. The accused then attempted to pass off the deaths as a case of suicide, claiming that his wife had killed their son before taking her own life. The incident came to light on Sunday morning in Naya Purwa Laupatti village under the Sangramgarh police station area. Neetu (30) and her son Rishoo (2) were found dead inside a room of their house. A sack tied to a ceiling hook was found hanging in the room, leading the husband, Suresh Patel, to initially tell police that his wife had committed suicide after killing their child. According to police, Suresh, a mason by profession, claimed he had spent the night sleeping outside the room along with his ailing mother, elder son and daughter. He further said that he discovered the bodies only after waking up in the morning. However, suspicion arose after Neetu's brother, Lavkush, arrived from his village in Antamau, Manikpur. He noticed injury and scratch marks on the necks of both victims and accused Suresh of murdering his wife and son. The allegation prompted police to intensify questioning of the accused. Senior police officials, including Sangramgarh Station Officer Siddharth Singh, Circle Officer Rajiv Dwivedi, Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Brijnandan Rai, Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar and Inspector General Ajay Kumar Mishra, visited the spot. A forensic team was also called to collect evidence from the scene. During sustained interrogation, Suresh allegedly broke down and confessed to the crime. Police said the accused admitted to killing both his wife and son following a dispute. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings are underway. ASP Brijnandan Rai said police became suspicious after noticing injury marks on the bodies. Following the complaint lodged by the woman's brother and subsequent questioning, the husband confessed to the murders. Police are now awaiting the post-mortem report while continuing the investigation.
