VARANASI, April 27 -- Upset over ongoing dispute with wife, who had been living at her parents' house, a man allegedly killed both his wife and mother-in-law by slitting their throats in early hours on Sunday in Bachhaipur village, under the Nagara police station area of Ballia district, police said. He also attacked his three-year-old son. According to police, Antu Gupta had married his 22-year-old daughter Preeti to Amit Gupta (27), a resident of Sinhachavar, a few years ago. For the past few months, Preeti had been living at her parental home due to alleged harassment by her husband. In the early hours of Sunday, Amit allegedly stormed into her parents' house and attacked Preeti with a knife. Hearing the screams, his mother-in-law Sushila Devi and father-in-law Antu Gupta rushed to save Preeti, but he allegedly attacked them as well with a knife, leaving them seriously injured. He also assaulted his three-year-old son Abhi, who had a narrow escape. Family members rushed the injured to the hospital, where Sushila and Preeti were declared brought dead, while Antu Gupta was referred to the trauma centre at BHU. His condition is stated to be stable, police said. Superintendent of police Omvir Singh and additional superintendent of police Dinesh Shukla inspected the spot. A forensic team examined the scene to collect evidence, while police promptly initiated further legal proceedings. Acting on a complaint filed by the father-in-law, police have registered a murder case against Amit Gupta and deployed a team to apprehend him.
