Man kills sister to acquire money set aside for her wedding

GORAKHPUR, Oct. 31 -- A man murdered his younger sister in cold blood to acquire the money received as compensation from land acquisition in Gorakhpur. The compensation, meant for the marriage of his sister, became the motive behind the gruesome crime.
According to police, the accused, Ashish Nishad (32), allegedly strangled his sister Neelima (19) to death and dumped her body about 70 km away from their home in Naya Gaon, under the Gorakhnath police station limits.
SP city Abhinav Tyagi said that the accused confessed to his crime after sustained interrogation. Police recovered Neelima's body on Wednesday night from a sugarcane field in Kushinagar district, as pointed out by Ashish during questioning.
The investigation revealed that on October 27, when their parents had gone to a temple to perform rituals, Ashish strangulated Neelima using her scarf. Later, he placed her body in a large plastic bag, carried it on a motorcycle, and dumped it in the field under the jurisdiction of Nebua Naurangiya police station in Kushinagar.
After Neelima went missing, her father Chinky Nishad lodged a complaint. With the help of CCTV footage and mobile location tracking, police traced Ashish and uncovered the murder plot. Initially, the accused tried to mislead the police by claiming he had gone to his wife's home for Chhath Puja, but evidence confirmed his presence in the village on the day of the incident.
Police investigations revealed that the accused was led by greed.
The victim's father had received Rs.5 lakh as compensation after land acquired for road widening. The amount was earmarked for Neelima's marriage, but Ashish wanted the money for himself and planned the murder to seize it.
The motorcycle used in the crime has been seized, and further legal action is underway....
