Man kills father over marriage dispute in Gorakhpur, held
GORAKHPUR, June 19 -- A 25-year-old man allegedly killed his father with an axe while he was asleep at their home in Village Jungle Ayodhya Prasad under Gulhariya Police Station area in Gorakhpur late on Wednesday night. Police said the accused was reportedly upset over delays in arranging his marriage.
The accused has been identified as Golu and the deceased as Barham Dev Kanojia (55). Officials said Golu allegedly attacked his father while he was asleep at home, striking him multiple times with an axe and inflicting fatal injuries.
Station house officer (SHO) of Gulhariya Police Station, Jagdeesh Lal Pal, said the accused has been arrested. Preliminary investigations indicate that Golu may be suffering from a mental health condition.
After allegedly committing the crime, the accused climbed onto the roof of the house and shouted that he killed his father because the family was not arranging his marriage. Hearing his cries, local residents alerted the police.
A police team reached the spot, detained the accused, and recovered the axe allegedly used in the crime.
The deceased's body was sent for a post-mortem examination.
"The accused told police that he was upset over the delay in his marriage and held his father responsible. A case has been registered, and the accused has been arrested. Further legal action is being taken," police said.
Police and forensic teams reached the scene and collected evidence. Statements of family members and local residents are being recorded as part of the investigation.
