Man held for tying ex-wife to motocycle, dragging her on road
Bahraich, April 4 -- A man was arrested for allegedly attempting to kill his former wife by tying her to a motorcycle and dragging her along a road in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district, police said on Friday.
The incident took place in the Nanpara Kotwali area on Wednesday. Both the woman and the accused sustained injuries, officials said. Police identified the accused as Rahees, a resident of Musallampur village in the Ramgaon area. He had married Reshma, a resident of Nanpara, about a year ago.
The couple separated after disputes, and their divorce was finalised in January. Since then, the woman had been living at her parental home.
According to eyewitnesses, the accused came to Nanpara and met his former wife near Laxmanpur Matehi village while she was returning home.
An argument broke out between them and soon turned violent.
Police said Rahees allegedly hit the woman with his motorcycle. He then tied her to the vehicle and dragged her along the road. Locals rushed to the spot after hearing her cries and rescued her. They also beat up the accused, leaving him injured. Police reached the spot and took the accused into custody. Both the injured were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The UP Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday arrested a reward-carrying accused wanted in a dacoity case registered in Ayodhya, officials said on Friday.
According to an STF press release, the accused, Shivam Singh alias Aryan, son of Ramchandra Singh and a resident of Sirsaheda village under Parasrampur police station in Basti district, was arrested near Amoni canal in the Chhawani police station area of Basti.
The arrest was made in connection with a case registered at Bikapur police station in Ayodhya district relating to dacoity and criminal conspiracy. A reward of Rs.50,000 had been announced for his arrest. The STF said the accused was absconding in connection with the case registered in 2025.
