VARANASI, March 16 -- Police on Sunday arrested a man accused of slitting the throat of a 12-year-old boy in Ramgarh under the Pannuganj police station area of Sonbhadra district on Saturday night. The knife used in the murder was also recovered from his possession. Raju Gupta, owner of a pottery shop in Ramgarh town, lodged a complaint stating that his son Aryan had been murdered. A boy who was with Aryan at the time of the incident fled the scene and informed the family about the attack, a police officer said. Enraged family members and villagers placed the body on the Robertsganj-Khaliyari road and staged a blockade, demanding the arrest of the accused. The protest ended after Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Verma assured them of swift action. Following the protest, the SP directed police teams to solve the case at the earliest. In the early hours of Sunday, a police team cordoned off the area near the Pakarhat canal culvert and arrested the accused, Diwakar Gupta. The SP said the investigation revealed that an old feud was the motive behind the murder. According to Verma, the accused told police during interrogation that there had been a long-standing dispute between his family and Aryan's family, often leading to verbal altercations. He also claimed that he suspected Aryan's mother of casting a spell or performing sorcery on his family, which he believed had caused suffering to them. The accused further alleged that about 15 years ago his elder brother had died of burn injuries and he suspected Aryan's family of being involved.
