Man held for murdering, dismembering missing Muzaffarnagar resident
MEERUT, June 3 -- A man was arrested following a police encounter in the Bhopa police station area of Muzaffarnagar district on Monday night for allegedly murdering a 37-year-old man, who had been missing for the past 14 days, and dismembering his body, police said on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Vikas alias Rocky.
During the exchange of fire, the accused, identified as Malpura village resident Monty Tyagi, sustained bullet injuries in both legs and was admitted to hospital.
The accused is a close friend of Rocky's stepson, Badal. Police investigations revealed that Badal was allegedly involved in planning the murder, which was reportedly motivated by ongoing family disputes and concerns over property.
According to the family, Rocky was married to Badal's mother Renu. On May 18, Rocky left home with Renu, stating they were travelling to Baghpat and Rishikesh. However, soon after Rocky's mobile phone was switched off and he could not be contacted again. After he went missing, Renu gave conflicting statements and later left the house with her son and daughter-in-law. A missing person's report was filed on May 25.
Late Monday, police received a tip-off that Monty was hiding near Kadipur village in Bhopa and arrested him following an encounter. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed that Rocky was abducted, taken to Baghpat and shot dead. The body was then dismembered, with the torso buried in a field and the head thrown into a canal.
According to police, Badal allegedly resented Rocky over family disputes, disapproved of his relationship with Renu, and feared that the birth of another child could reduce his share of the family's property and inheritance.
Police suspect Badal was the mastermind behind the murder and shot Rocky. Police are still probing Renu's role in the conspiracy. Renu, Badal, and Nisha are absconding, and police teams are conducting raids to apprehend them.
Circle officer (New Mandi) Raju Kumar Sab said police teams were carrying out extensive searches for the remaining accused....
