Man held for duping army aspirants in Lko
LUCKNOW, Feb. 26 -- The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) arrested a man in the city for allegedly running a racket that duped young aspirants by promising them recruitment in the Indian Army, senior police officials said here on Wednesday.
The arrest was made on Tuesday near Usman Chowk under the Cantonment police station limits of the Lucknow police commissionerate. Acting on specific inputs, the STF apprehended the accused, identified as Alok Tiwari alias Aakash Kumar, a resident of Chhibramau in Kannauj district, who was allegedly collecting money from candidates on the pretext of ensuring their selection in the Army.
Officials said that during questioning, the accused allegedly confessed that he used to visit Army recruitment centres to identify candidates who had failed medical examinations. He would allegedly approach such candidates and assure them that he could help them clear the medical stage in exchange for money.
He allegedly targeted aspirants with minor medical issues. In cases involving hand tremors, he allegedly arranged injections before medical re-examinations to temporarily suppress symptoms and help candidates pass the tests.
After candidates cleared the medical examination, he allegedly demanded amounts ranging between Rs.10,000 and Rs.20,000, claiming he had managed the process. In some cases, he allegedly collected original mark sheets from aspirants to exert pressure and prevent them from reporting the matter to authorities.
A case has been registered at Cantonment police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy....
