man drowns in swollen river in Pithoragarh
Pithoragarh, Aug. 28 -- A 42-year-old farmer drowned in a swollen rivulet near his village in Pithoragarh district while attempting to drive away a herd of monkeys that had entered his agricultural fields, officials said on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Vivek Singh Kanyal, a resident of Doonakot village in the Didihat area. According to Khushboo Pandey, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Didihat, Kanyal had gone to his farm on Wednesday to chase away monkeys that were damaging crops when he fell into the swollen Rotis rivulet near the village.
"After falling into the swollen rivulet, the victim could not come out. His body was later recovered by the State Disaster Response Force around 150 metres downstream from the spot where he had fallen," Pandey said. The body was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination, officials said....
